Garry was born in Tasmania, Australia, and first studied fine art full time at the National Art School in Sydney and at East Sydney Tech (evenings). He received a Marten Bequest 2-year Traveling Art Prize ( In Australia 1978) deciding to travel to Europe and study the great artists in museums. After receiving an offer of a scholarship to New York Studio School, he became a full-time student from September 1978 - 1985.
Garry has studied at the NYSS with Nick Carone, Peter Agostini, Mercedes Matter, George McNeil, Sidney Geist, Bruce Gagnier, John Walker,…
